Five Ways You Can Participate in Sanctity of Life

This January at Occoquan Bible Church we want to focus special attention on the sanctity of human life, especially as we come up on yet another anniversary of the Supreme Court’s wicked decision in Roe v. Wade.

Below are several ways we invite you to learn and think about this important issue and get involved in caring for the lives of the unborn.

Meditate and Pray

First, set aside time to read and meditate upon the following Scriptures. Talk with your family about these passages. What do they teach about life, the unborn, and the value of children? And as you see these truths in Scripture, move to prayer. Pray for the lives of the unborn and for hearts to be transformed by the power of the Gospel.

  • Genesis 1:26–28
  • Genesis 2:4–7
  • Exodus 21:22–24
  • Psalm 127:1-5
  • Psalm 128:1-6
  • Psalm 139:13–16
  • Proverbs 6:16–19
  • Proverbs 24:10–12
  • Proverbs 31:8
  • Micah 6:8
  • Luke 1:39–45

Read our Doctrinal Statement

Second, read and consider OBC’s doctrinal statement. We have adopted language into our statement of faith which summarizes the Bible’s teaching on life. If you have any questions, the elders would love to speak with you about this important issue. Here’s the statement:

We believe that all human life is sacred and created by God in His image. Human life is of inestimable worth in all its dimensions, including pre-born babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other stage or condition from conception through natural death. We are therefore called to defend, protect, and value all human life [Ps. 139].

Support CareNet

Third, support Care Net. Care Net is our local pro-life crisis pregnancy center. They have offices in Woodbridge and Manassas, and there are many opportunities to serve with them in our community. Visit Care Net online and consider how you might support and partner with them in this important work. Make sure to read about their efforts to bring an ultrasound machine to Woodbridge.

Evangelicals for Life (January 26-28)

Fourth, attend Evangelicals for Life, a two-day event in Washington, D.C. co-sponsored by the ERLC and Focus on the Family. This is the second year this major pro-life conference has been offered for evangelicals in conjunction with the March for Life. Evangelicals from across the country will gather in Washington DC to be inspired and equipped by speakers including Russell Moore, Jim Daly, Matt Chandler, Al Mohler, and many more. If you're unable to attend this conference in person, we encourage you to watch the livestream from your home.

The March for Life (Friday, January 27)

Fifth, join us this year as we return to the March for Life. We will meet at OBC at 9:45am and caravan together to Pentagon City. From there, we will Metro to the Smithsonian. The rally begins at noon and the March is from 1-3pm. Please bring money for lunch at Pentagon City, and for your Metro card. Dress warmly!

Please contact the church office if you plan to join us, or if you need additional information.

I pray that you will be encouraged and challenged by these resources and events, and that you would consider how you might strive with us to uphold the sanctity of human life.

May we be faithful to be a voice for the voiceless, protect the vulnerable, and love our neighbors no matter how small.
