New for the New Year
As we are getting close to the new year, I’m glad to share news about a few things that are coming quickly this January: (1) We have created an Occoquan Bible Church App, and (2) we are transitioning to an improved mobile and desktop giving system.
The OBC App
In the next few weeks we will be launching an Occoquan Bible Church app for iOS and Android devices. As we live and breathe in the information age, I believe this will be a valuable tool for our church family. Yes, it’s only an electronic tool, but it’s our prayer that it will help many move to face-to-face fellowship where true growth occurs.
Sermons & Blog: This app will provide immediate access to sermon audio and blog posts which are updated weekly. Sermons can be streamed or downloaded and listened to on-the-go. Our weekly Resource Blog provides discussion questions for each week for you to talk through with your family around the dinner table and/or with your Home Group.
Home Groups: If you’re not in a Home Group or Bible Study, don’t miss out! We encourage you to look through our Group Directory and join us through the week. Please don’t only listen and leave — which makes Sunday morning more like a data download. Instead, we invite you to enjoy fellowship and community through the week in our Home Groups and Bible Studies!
Contact Us: Have a prayer request or would you like to talk with a pastor? You can message the elders and church office through the app.
Giving: Users will also be able to give directly through the app. This new option makes sense in our information age. Cash and check use continues to fade as electronic and mobile payments increase. Web traffic is also shifting from the desktop to the mobile device. One example: about 70% of Amazon’s sales occur on mobile devices. Personally, I hardly ever carry cash and I don’t remember the last time I wrote a check. Giving through the Church App is simple, secure, and fast. Mobile giving provides us with the opportunity to give on Sunday morning even if we forgot to bring cash or check.
Welcome: For those who are visiting, a free download of the app will give access to a Welcome Letter, the Guest Communication Card — which can be submitted to the church office via the app, and a Class Schedule for Sunday mornings.
Mobile notifications: If you download the app, we will be able to send notifications directly to your device. This is an important communication tool for church news, content updates, and special announcements. Be sure to enable mobile notifications when you download the app!
The app will go live in a few weeks, so keep an eye out for it. Again, it will be available for free for Android and iOS devices. It’s my prayer that this app will be a blessing and help our church family move into greater engagement with one another.
New Online Giving System
Starting on January 1, 2017, we will be transitioning to a new online giving system.
For Current Users
If you currently use our online giving system for reoccurring gifts, we will deactivate our old system on December 31, 2016. Scheduled contributions will no longer continue in that system after December 31st. We will email you a link where you can setup giving in our new system for 2017. You will still have access to your giving history and you can download your end-of-year giving statement for 2016 until January 31, 2017. Should you have a need for your end-of-year statement after January 31, or for previous years, please contact the church office.
For those of you who have preciously setup automatic giving with our bookkeeper, those transactions are unaffected and will continue as they are separate from our online giving system. You can contact our bookkeeper at any time to update your giving schedule.
For New Users
If you would like to setup online giving, our new system will go live on January 1, 2017. Setup is simple, and we can help you if you have any questions. You can give one-time gifts, or setup reoccurring giving. This secure system can be used on a desktop computer or through our new church app.
We are glad to make this system transition because our new system provides these services at a much more affordable rate, we are given greater functionality, and it has a much more intuitive interface which makes it easier to use.
Should you have questions or need help with setup, please let us know. We are excited for the opportunity to use these new and improved tools to serve the church!
