Remembering the Passion Week
Every Spring as we approach the Passion Week (Palm Sunday to Resurrection Sunday), we have special opportunities to remember Christ’s death and celebrate His resurrection. This season should be marked by our praise to God for His great mercy to us, for such a great salvation accomplished through our Lord Jesus Christ. As Peter wrote, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead” (1 Pet 1:3).
Let me encourage you with a few practical ways in which you as an individual, or you as a family might draw near to the Lord and celebrate the Gospel.
Meditate on the Gospel
If you and your family gather together around God’s Word during the week, the following resources would be some great ways for you as a family to reflect on the Christ’s death and resurrection.
- If you’ve never done it before, I recommend that you select and read along in one of the Gospels, following along each day with the narrative of the Passion Week. Here’s a detailed timeline of the Passion Week that might be helpful.
- Desiring God Ministries has also published a short book “Your Sorrow Will Turn to Joy,” which is filled with morning and evening meditations, and it has been made available for you to download for free.
If family worship is absent or irregular in your home, I invite you to read Don Whitney’s book Family Worship, watch his short video series, and consider how the Scriptures might have a more central place in the life of your home.
Gather Together with Christ's Body
Last, let me encourage you to take advantage of the opportunities below this coming week to gather together with the body of Christ as we remember His sufferings and death, and celebrate His resurrection.
Good Friday Service, March 25, 7:00-8:00pm
Come join us as we remember our Lord’s atoning sacrifice. We will gather at 7:00pm for a time of singing, Scripture reading, and Good Friday meditation.
“He Lives!” Free Family Easter Event, Saturday, March 26, 10:00am-1:00pm
We are excited to have Forrest Davis with us to share the Gospel through a high-energy, exciting program for kids. This young performer uses feats of balance, juggling, and slight-of-hand to help kids uncover truth in God's Word. Invite a friend, come for the performance, and stay for lunch!
Resurrection Sunday, March 27, 9:30am & 11:00am
Come worship with us, as we celebrate the good news of our Lord Jesus Christ’s victory over death.
He is risen!
