The Expected One
This Christmas, we would like to give a copy of The Expected One by Scott James to your family, and you can pickup your free copy at the OBC Bookstore.
This Christmas devotional will take you from December 1–25 with daily meditations from the Messianic prophecies of the Old Testament. David Platt, in his introduction to the book wrote, “it is deeply meaningful for God’s people to gather together with family and/or friends in the days leading up to December 25 simply to contemplate the glory of the baby to whom all of history pointed and around whom all of history revolves. Jesus has come, Jesus has died, Jesus has risen, and Jesus will forever reign! Certainly these are themes worthy of our reflection.”
For the same reasons, we recommend this book to you, and we have purchased copies to put into the hands of our church family. It is our prayer that this short book and these Scriptures will encourage your heart toward our Savior this Christmas season.
This book would also be a great way to begin having family devotions at home. The layout of this book is simple and well suited for family devotions. There are two pages for each day. On the left hand page, you have an Old Testament prophecy of the Messiah, followed by a short explanation of the text. On the right hand page, you then have a few questions to help you review and reflect on the Biblical text, and also to provoke discussion with others.
If the idea of family devotions seems foreign, or you’re in need of ideas, let me encourage you to visit www.theexpectedonebook.com and read “A Guide to Family Worship.” Let me encourage you to pick up your copy of The Expected One this Sunday so you’ll be ready to start on December 1st.
On a side note, if you have not yet received your free copy of Church Membership by Jonathan Leeman, we have those back in stock as well.
May God encourage us together as we consider the light of our Savior this Christmas season, and as we look forward in anticipation of our King’s return!
