EQUIP Conference 2016

Screenshot 2016-07-26 11.51.03

This past September, Occoquan Bible Church hosted a weekend conference aimed to equip the saints for their works of service. This year’s conference was twofold, considering marriage and evangelism. Typically seen as two silos of Christian discipleship, we learned how marriage displays the gospel and how evangelism powerfully communicated through our homes. Together marriage and evangelism inform and strengthen one another. A Christ-centered marriage improves our understanding on how we can share the gospel, and a commitment to sharing Christ with our neighbors sets our marriages on a course for evangelism and missions.

What follows is an introduction to the speakers, the sermon audio of each message, plus two Q & A sessions, and additional resources (books and articles on marriage and “neighboring” evangelism).

david ShrockDavid Schrock is Occoquan Bible Church's Pastor of Preaching and Theology. He has a passion for church and home for the sake of the gospel, and seeing marriages utilize their unique situations in life to make disciples of neighbors and nations. His message explains the conference's theme: The Mission of Marriage.

T BristerTim Brister served for seven years as an associate pastor at Grace Baptist Church in Cape Coral, Florida, where Tom Ascol (Founder’s Ministry) is Senior Pastor. Last year, he launched Gospel Systems Incorporated. This entrepreneurial ministry venture oversees The Haiti Collective and PLNTD (a church planting network). To quote from his church’s leadership page: “His passion is to see disciples made, leaders trained, and churches equipped for mission.” He is married to Dusti and they have three children. Currently, they reside in Spring Hill, Tennessee where they are active members of The Bridge Church. His ministry takes him all over the country, but much of his recent efforts have focused on “neighboring”—practically and strategically sharing the love of Christ with those whom we live.

J FlattDr. Joseph Flatt pastored the First Baptist Church of Carmel, Indiana for 40 years. During those years he also completed 30 years as an Army chaplain. He has served as an adjunct professor for Grace College and Crossroads College, both in Indiana. He is a contributor to the book Reforming Pastoral Ministry (Crossway, 2001). He leads the Doulos Network, a ministry to local churches, he serves on the board of directors for Indianapolis Theological Seminary, and he and his wife are active members of Castleview Baptist Church (Fishers, Indiana). Most importantly, Joe has been married to Judy for nearly fifty years. They have five adult children and twelve grandchildren.
